Boys Basketball: Bassick Picks Up Challenge Win Over Central

(1-21-15) Bassick picked up their first win in the Bridgeport Challenge over a struggling Bridgeport Central 76-62.  Although Harding had already wrapped up the Challenge Championship, the game was important for both schools in the Challenge All-Sports Trophy race.  Bassick will pick up 2nd place points for the win tonight.

The loss was Central’s fourth in a row and are now 5-5 on the regular season.  Bassick ups it’s record on the year to 4-4 and has won 3 of it’s 4 games.

Girls Basketball: Central Wins Game and Challenge Title

(1-20-15) In this year’s final game of Girls Basketball in the Bridgeport Challenge, Bridgeport Central picked up the win it needed in a very close game over Bassick 24-22 and clinch the title and the Challenge Trophy.
The Hilltoppers’ Natasha Brown had 11 points and 9 steals and Alexia Myers added 9 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

The addition of Jidaya Hawtherine for Bassick was a key in the close match-up as she led her team with 12 points in the loss.

Central ends the Challenge at 2-0 and is now 4-8 on the regular season, while Bassick is 0-2 in the Challenge and is still win less in the regular season.

Boys and Girls Basketball: Close Games Highlight Bridgeport Challenge

(1-16-15) Today Central and Harding matched-up in boys and girls basketball as part of the Bridgeport Challenge.

In boys basketball , Harding was down by 17, 38-21 at half , but comes from behind after outscoring Central 23-6 in the third quarter to tie it up at 44. The Presidents controlled the final quarter and beat Central, 67-62 and claim the Bridgeport Challenge Trophy. The Presidents finish the Challenge at 2-0, with the loss Central drops to 0-1 and is tied with Bassick, they will play the final Challenge game on January 21st.

With the loss Central is 5-3 on the regular season, while Harding moves to 5-3 regular season record and a four game winning streak.

In girls basketball Bridgeport Central picks up a key Challenge with Harding 56-53. With the win Central can win the Challenge if they beat Bassick, if Bassick wins we would have a three way tie. With the win Central is now 3-8 on the season,  Harding drops to  2-8 on the regular season.

Bridgeport Challenge – Central and Harding Match-up in Boys and Girls Basketball Today

(1-16-15) Today Central and Harding match-up in boys and girls basketball as part of the Bridgeport Challenge.  Both Harding teams come in with 1-0 and records and wins would give them both the title and trophy. Central can derail those plans with a win today and match-ups next week with Bassick could decide the Challenge titles.

In girls basketball Harding will host Central, while on the boys side Central will be at Harding.

In boys basketball Central is 5-2 on the regular season and just had their 5 game winning streak stopped on Tuesday in a 66-48 loss to Norwalk.  Meanwhile Harding enters the contest with a 4-3 regular season record and a three game winning streak.

In girls basketball Central is 2-8 on the season, their two wins came at the Bridgeport Christmas Tournament  over Bassick and Bullard Havens Tech. Harding enters the game at 2-7 on the regular season, including a Challenge win over a Bassick and a win over them at the Bridgeport Christmas Tournament

Harding’s  Xavier Bass at 182 was named the matches MVP after picking up a technical fall win.in the third period.

Harding Sweeps Bassick; Bridgeport Challenge Basketball Kicked Off Today

(1-6-15) Bridgeport Challenge Basketball kicked off today in both boys and girls basketball.

Girls Basketball

Harding defeated Bassick 40-27. Lala Francois led Harding with 13 and Queeny Edwards had 9 in the win.  With the win Harding moves to 2-5 on the season and Bassick drops to 0-8.

Boys and Girls Basketball Kick-off Bridgeport Challenge Tonight

(1-6-14) Tonight both Boys and Girls Basketball will kick-off the 2015 Bridgeport Challenge.

In Boys Basketball, Bassick will be at Harding.

Bassick is 1-2 in the regular season picking up a 72-60 win over Fairfield Warde in their last game on December 22nd.  Harding comes into the game at 1-3, with their win coming over St. Joseph 86-68 on December 19th.

While in Girls play Harding will be at Bassick.

Harding enters the game at 1-5, but that win was in the Christmas Tournament over Bassick (0-7) 45-18 (a non-Challenge game).
