(4-23-15) Harding and Central will play for the Softball Challenge title this Friday (April 24th). Both teams come into the game with wins over Bassick.

So far this year the Bridgeport Challenge titles have been spread around the three schools,  a title for either school in softball will help decide the All Sports Trophy. Central and Harding both have 2 and Bassick has 1 Challenge trophy.

The All Sports Trophy will be handed out at the Bridgeport Challenge dinner at season’s end, after the spring season is completed.

SOFTBALL: Central Picks Up Challenge Win Over Bassick

(Saturday, April 11) In the first game of the Bridgeport Challenge in softball, Central cruises to a 21-6 win over Bassick.  The Hilltoppers scored 14 runs in the first two innings and took control for the win.

Central pitcher Senior Kendall Washington, was named the game’s MVP, she struck out eight to pick up the win and also helped her own cause with a home run.

Freshman Danisha Reyes and Sophomore Maliah Pabellon both added two home runs and.Freshman Danielle Nichols added three hits for the Hilltoppers .

Junior Celilia Rivas and Senior J’Daya Hawthorne each had three hits to lead Bassick.

Boys Basketball: Bassick Picks Up Challenge Win Over Central

(1-21-15) Bassick picked up their first win in the Bridgeport Challenge over a struggling Bridgeport Central 76-62.  Although Harding had already wrapped up the Challenge Championship, the game was important for both schools in the Challenge All-Sports Trophy race.  Bassick will pick up 2nd place points for the win tonight.

The loss was Central’s fourth in a row and are now 5-5 on the regular season.  Bassick ups it’s record on the year to 4-4 and has won 3 of it’s 4 games.

Girls Basketball: Central Wins Game and Challenge Title

(1-20-15) In this year’s final game of Girls Basketball in the Bridgeport Challenge, Bridgeport Central picked up the win it needed in a very close game over Bassick 24-22 and clinch the title and the Challenge Trophy.
The Hilltoppers’ Natasha Brown had 11 points and 9 steals and Alexia Myers added 9 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

The addition of Jidaya Hawtherine for Bassick was a key in the close match-up as she led her team with 12 points in the loss.

Central ends the Challenge at 2-0 and is now 4-8 on the regular season, while Bassick is 0-2 in the Challenge and is still win less in the regular season.
