Boys Volleyball – Bassick Knocks Off Harding In Bridgeport Challenge

Bassick made a statement on Wednesday when they knocked off Harding in their first match in the Bridgeport Challenge.  The Lions with the win are now in first place at 1-0  and Harding drops to 1-1.

Bassick was led by Match MVP Sachin Manning who served four aces and added twelve kills and three blocks. Helping the Lions’ win were David Masala who had eight kills and eight assists and Joel Richards added six kills.

(October 6, 2014) Central scored two second half goals to pick-up a 2-0 win over Harding and the first ever Bridgeport Challenge Trophy.

MVP for this game would have to go to our 4 defenders who all had to play new positions due to injuries of key players. John Fred Louis, Ricardo Jean-Pierre, Michael Rua, and Victor Pereira. This was truly a team effort and a refusal to accept defeat.

I want to congratulate Harding for their desire to challenge us to play to our potential. Their desire and passion for the game are a tribute to the competitive spirit in Bridgeport.

Boys Soccer: Central Knocks Off Bassick

Central is now in the driver’s seat to pick up the first ever Bridgeport Challenge Trophy in boy’s soccer after a 3-2 win over Bassick.

Central’s Diago Gardner had two goals to lead the way.  Goalie Andres Palacio  had 5 saves to pick up the win in goal.

Central led 2-0 at half, but Bassick came back with 2 goals in the second half.

Central Coach Jay Silverman said after the match:

I have to say the game was a battle between two teams that brought out their best in this competition. I want to congratulate Bassick for their determination, refusal to give up as well as their ability to force us to play to a higher level.  Hopefully, this will be a boost to both teams in knowing that the motivation and desire for success comes from within each player focusing on the group effort.

Central can win the Challenge on October 6th when they play Harding, who has already lost to Bassick.

Central is now 2-6 on the season, while Bassick is 2-4-1.

Key Boys Soccer Challenge Match – Bassick at Bridgeport Central

(9-29-14) Bassick will face Central on Tuesday night in a key Bridgeport Challenge match.  Bassick is 1-0 in the Challenge and a win over Central would give them the Challenge 1st place trophy.  Bassick picked up a 7-3 win over Harding last week.  This will be Central’s first Challenge match.  A win by Central would put them in place to win the Challenge with a match on October 6th against Harding.

This past weekend Bassick picked up it’s second win of the season with a 7-2 win over Trinity Catholic on Friday.  Meanwhile; on Saturday Wilton shut-out Central 5-0.  Both teams have wins over Trinity Catholic.

On the regular season Bassick is 2-3-1, while Central is 1-6.
