(5-12-15) Harding clinched second place in the Bridgeport Challenge with a 3-0 win over Central. The Presidents end the Challenge at 2-2, while Central is 0-3 and has a match remaining with Challenge Champions Bassick.

Harding was led by Jerome Laurel who had 8 kills, 20 service points and two digs.  Tavari Davis helped out with six kills, six blocks and 5 assists and Marquest Ranger added 15 assists and 11 digs.

(April 22, 2015) Harding picked up a 3-2 win over Bridgeport Central in the first match of the Bridgeport Challenge. This Challenge will feature each school playing the other two schools twice  to determine the title.

Leading the way for Harding  in the win was Player of the Match Carlos Carlenas, who had 23 service points and six assists; Marquest Ranger, had 19 service points and five blocks; Daniel Barrios, added 10 digs and six assists; and Marquis Davis, with 15 service points.

For Central, Chandler Vargas had 10 kills, six digs, two blocks and four assists and Christian Barrigan had seven kills.

(1-16-15) Today Central and Harding matched-up in boys and girls basketball as part of the Bridgeport Challenge.

In boys basketball , Harding was down by 17, 38-21 at half , but comes from behind after outscoring Central 23-6 in the third quarter to tie it up at 44. The Presidents controlled the final quarter and beat Central, 67-62 and claim the Bridgeport Challenge Trophy. The Presidents finish the Challenge at 2-0, with the loss Central drops to 0-1 and is tied with Bassick, they will play the final Challenge game on January 21st.

With the loss Central is 5-3 on the regular season, while Harding moves to 5-3 regular season record and a four game winning streak.

In girls basketball Bridgeport Central picks up a key Challenge with Harding 56-53. With the win Central can win the Challenge if they beat Bassick, if Bassick wins we would have a three way tie. With the win Central is now 3-8 on the season,  Harding drops to  2-8 on the regular season.

Central’s Unique Langston scored 20 points, including 5 3-pointers.

Bridgeport Challenge – Central and Harding Match-up in Boys and Girls Basketball Today

(1-16-15) Today Central and Harding match-up in boys and girls basketball as part of the Bridgeport Challenge.  Both Harding teams come in with 1-0 and records and wins would give them both the title and trophy. Central can derail those plans with a win today and match-ups next week with Bassick could decide the Challenge titles.

In girls basketball Harding will host Central, while on the boys side Central will be at Harding.

In boys basketball Central is 5-2 on the regular season and just had their 5 game winning streak stopped on Tuesday in a 66-48 loss to Norwalk.  Meanwhile Harding enters the contest with a 4-3 regular season record and a three game winning streak.

In girls basketball Central is 2-8 on the season, their two wins came at the Bridgeport Christmas Tournament  over Bassick and Bullard Havens Tech. Harding enters the game at 2-7 on the regular season, including a Challenge win over a Bassick and a win over them at the Bridgeport Christmas Tournament

(11-18-14) It took a day delay and playing the games on two different fields, but the Presidents of Harding picked up the Bridgeport Challenge title with a 14-6 win over Central,  and end a 15 year drought that started in 1998 with the win over the Hilltoppers.

The game was suspended with 5:03 left in the 4th quarter just after Jahzaari Mullings had scored his second TD of the day.  The final 5:03 of the contest was played on Friday morning at Kennedy Stadium, Central’s home field.

The Harding defense was led by Jeffery Rogers with 3 sacks and 12 tackles. The defense was able to force 3 turnovers as RaRa Gorham and Kane Andre recovered fumbles and senior captain Jon Maldonado picked off a pass in the endzone. Xavier Bass had sacked Mykel Morris on Central’s final 2 offensive plays.

All of the points scored in the game came in the second half.  Harding ends the season at 5-6 and Central finishes at 2-9.
